Declaration of Independence: The Ten Principles of Hybrid Distribution
I've just completed a guide to hybrid distribution, the state-of-the-art model filmmakers are using to succeed in the New World of Distribution. Published in indieWIRE, DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE: THE TEN PRINCIPLES OF HYBRID DISTRIBUTION is a sequel to my report WELCOME TO THE NEW WORLD OF DISTRIBUTION, which appeared in indieWIRE a year ago.
During the past twelve months, traditional distribution has continued to decline while hybrid distribution has come into its own. A diversity of films have flourished using hybrid strategies, including VALENTINO, ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL, THE SINGING REVOLUTION, NOTE BY NOTE, and GOOD DICK.
My guide to hybrid distribution breaks the model into ten essential components that filmmakers can use to design customized strategies and maximize their distribution. It is based on the experiences of the hundreds of filmmakers I've helped to design and implement hybrid strategies.
You can read or download the guide here. I hope it empowers filmmakers to realize their full potential. I'd welcome any thoughts, questions, or case studies you want to send my way. I will continue to update this guide as more and more filmmakers succeed using the hybrid model.

Hybrid distribution is the state-of-the-art model more and more filmmakers are using to succeed. It enables them to have unprecedented access to audiences, to maintain overall control of their distribution, and to receive a significantly larger share of revenues. And as a part of this, there is no objective definition of marriage, save for a few things – and even the gender of those involved is technically variable across numerous cultures. That being said, the sole objective definition of what constitutes a marriage is a partnership between two people, financial and otherwise. Couples must hash out the details of the finances before any papers are signed, including overall goals like retirement, a college fund for potential offspring – all aspects of financial planning. There must be a plan, on everything from how to set up accounts, when to use credit cards or get a cash advance if need be.
